Pay As U Go Cartel
This group of MCs and DJs came together about two years ago when 'Pay As you Go' ( MCs Major Ace, Gods Gift, Plague, DJs Slimzee and Genius) joined with 'Ladies Hit' (MCs Major Ace, Wiley, Maxwell D, and DJ Target).
They started off playing on Deja Vu, Rinse and Magic FM. The name Pay As U Go came from the times - as everyone was on pay as u go. The first dance they ever performed together at was Sun City. After this, promoters were lining up to get them on their bill. La Cosa Nostra, Harmony, Urban Music Showcase, Club Sidewinder, License 2 Rave are just some of the events that Pay As U Go regulary perform at. I posed a question to Major Ace
Which are your favourite events? "Well it has to be Sun City, Garage Nation, Champagne Dance and of course D-10-tion!" Major Ace replied.
What are the trademark lyrics for the MCs? Maxwell D - Don't let me get serious, Major Ace - Everyone wants to be a top shotter, Wiley - They call me William, Gods Gift - MC Tribute. But Pay As U Go want to be artists not just MCs and DJs. Chart success is another obvious goal. Which brought me onto the next question.
Are we going to hear any tunes from PAUG? Major replied " Sony have just signed Champagne Dance which will be released soon, as will 'Know We'. The cartel are also working on 'How we came'. Whilst me, Jookie Mundo, Double O, and Nicky Slim Ting have pressed 'We are Ready.' "
Who were your inspirators? "JAY-Z, BIG-E, Beenie Man and Bounty Killer were mine", said Major Ace.
Where do they get their lyrics from? we asked. "From life experiences, from our surroundings and from our future dreams", said Major. "We wanna do our own dances, we wanna show the world that UKG is the best form of music". We asked Major Ace if he had any advice for up and coming DJs and MCs, "Keep it real, Dont chat about things that aint real, keep working hard coz success will come to you." Finally I asked for the PAUG motto. "Hard work is the key to success."
